Indigenous Rights Campaigns Assistant

  • Play a supporting role in developing Indigenous rights campaigns
  • Temporary (4 month) part-time (4 days per week) role based in either Perth or Sydney, immediate start available
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and activists with knowledge and experience in the Community is Everything campaign are strongly encouraged to apply for this position

This exciting position is will aid the Indigenous Rights Team to develop strategies to win our Indigenous rights campaigns. This role will support the team to develop and deliver the Community is Everything blitz and other Indigenous rights work, in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations.

At the Australian arm of Amnesty International we are focused on campaigns to improve Indigenous rights, protect and defend the rights of refugees and supporting our priority global campaigns.

About the role

The role will provide support to our priority campaign, Community is Everything and other Indigenous rights work, working within the Indigenous Rights Team. The Community is Everything campaign aims to end the over-representation of Indigenous children in youth detention.

This role can be based in either our Perth or Sydney action centres and is available immediately.

  • Skills and Experience
  • Interest in and passion for defending the rights of Indigenous peoples.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • High standard of administrative skills across a range of sources.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to confidently liaise with people from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and confidentiality.  
  • Good computer and technology skills.
  • Good understanding of the Community Is Everything campaign.
